i can confirm that behaviour with Debian Lenny and Gq 1.2.3 (tar ball
installation) and also with lenny and gq_1.0.0-3+b1_i386.deb (debian sid
repository)

1. After fresh start of GQ any connection to a saved LDAP server will fail with the error message mentioned earlier.
2. confirm the error message
3. edit the server entry (just view! dont alter anything)
4. click OK without anything altered
5. click the server again to view entries >> works now

i dont have a clue why this happends! in my case the ldap server allows
simple searches without any authentication.
