I hate to "me too" this bug but I agree, it is not a duplicate of
#348752.

Msn works for me, about once per month in Empathy. Most of the time,
even after reconfiguring the package as listed above, and after 'killall
telepathy-butterfly", I just get a dropdown with "Network Error" in my
contact list.

This hasn't worked for about 8 months now, so I'd say it's pretty
important.
