Did some researching and got some news:

I installed the Intel 2.5.1. driver from the ppa.launchpad.net Intel repository - it is not the newest one (as stated in my comment above) but... 
The sudden disconnects from X.org are still there. So there is still a chance that version 2.6.0. of the Intel driver may solve the problem. I personally will wait until it appears inside the mentioned repository.

Cosmin Roman described a workaround: He disabled any other video output
which xrandr is able to detect beside the LVDS (the built in Laptop
screen) and this way he got (also) rid of the X crashing (so he stated
this in his next comment).

Sounds logical to me - but as I sometimes need different outputs it's
not a premium solution, you know :)
