I failed to mention that after applying the lower mtu and checking the memory with the memtest86+ for over 4 hours without any problem being reported, I am still having the same problem when downloading packages. Maybe it's absurd, but I thought I'd mention this: when I update small packages with synaptic (under 1 MB) all seems to go fine; they download, uncompress and install OK. When updating larger packages (over 1 MB) or when the total size of the packages is larger than that, that's when I start having the corruption problems.
I have found other people reporting trouble with their GA-M56S-S3 boards, especially related to the MAC address being reversed or changed at every boot (forcedeth driver related) but that's not my case. The only difference, as can be seen further up this thread, is that Fedora's ifconfig reports the MAC address in uppercase and ubuntu in lowercase.
Are there maybe any BIOS settings I can try?
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
