** Description changed:

I have a laptop and connected external CRT screen Hitachi CM751ET. When
I use one of the higher resolution video modes (1400x1050 or 1600x1200)
for the external monitor and no video mode for the integrated display,
the video mode of the CRT starts to flicker in certain cases:

  1) After I press Ctrl-Alt-F1 Ctrl-Alt-F7
  2) After I start video playback by gxine or vlc; vlc don't work even in the dual-screen mode.

  There are other cases, too.

  OS: Xubuntu 8.04
