Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

xrandr started crashing my X server occasionally, after the upgrade to
Intrepid.

I've a Lenovo T61 laptop with Intel GMA X3100 (965GM) video.  Sometimes
I connect an external monitor and use xrandr to resize the desktop over
both monitors. When I disconnect it later and use xrandr to turn off
the extra monitor, my X server sometimes crashes and I'm presented with
the GDM login screen. In those occasions I see this error message at
the very end of /var/log/gdm/:0.log.1:

  X: intel_context.c:1020: UNLOCK_HARDWARE: Assertion
`intel->batch->cliprect_mode != REFERENCES_CLIPRECTS' failed.

xserver-xorg-video-intel is version 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10.1.  I use compiz,
which may or may not be relevant.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
