  * Update New Wave theme to version 0.7.1

The new version, released to Jaunty, has switched to using lighter
menus. I believe that this resolves your issue. If you disagree, please
feel free to reopen this bug report.

If you'd like to test this while on Intrepid, an Intrepid package for
community-themes 0.11is available in my PPA:
