Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-netcdf

I'm using python-netcdf (version 2.4.11-1ubuntu3) from Ubuntu Server
(8.04.1) 64-bit on Intel Xeon CPU E5420.

Running the example "netcdf_demo.py" shows the problem I experience:

$ python /usr/share/doc/python-netcdf/examples/netcdf_demo.py
Floating point exception (core dumped)

This file should create a NetCDF file and read the data back. However,
it crashes at line 31 ("foo[:,:] = 0."). Every time a 2d array is
accessed (reading or writing) python crashes. Vectors (1d arrays) seem
to be ok.

I'm not able to reproduce this problem with on 32-bit processor. It
seems to be specific to 64-bit.

** Affects: python-scientific (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
