Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scilab

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

scilab:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 4.1.2-4
  Version table:
     4.1.2-4 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Note: I have removed the scilab package due to this bug and installed
the binary .tgz release from www.scilab.org to replace it.

In the above referenced scilab package the built-in function getdate(),
which should return a 10-element date vector, exits the scilab
interpreter silently without a return to the prompt. This makes hardy's
scilab release unusable if getdate() is required. Workarounds may exist
but are not easy. The 4.1.2 binary .tgz release from scilab.org works
fine under hardy.

Note: I wonder if testing of the package is incomplete, as this is a
standard function with and also because gutsy's scilab had a memory
allocation problem which also rendered it unusable, i.e. scilab has been
unusable for the last two Ubuntu releases.

** Affects: scilab (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
