I have made exactly the same experience with intel gm45.
The XServer always failed to start with 2.6.28-8. After hours to get the problem i started 2.6.28-6 and it works.
To compare where the difference between 2.6.28-6 and 2.6.28-8 is, i started 2.6.28-8 again. AND it works too!

I have both log-files working and not working with 2.6.28-8. Feel free to look it up.
It seems to be a shared-memory-issue.

PS: there is no line missing in Xorg.0.log.non-working !
