Thanks for the try, but that didn't do it :-/ 
I had to add the repository deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fabricesp/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
, the jaunty thing didn't do anything to my Intrepid :-)

After the updates, hugin no longer crashes, but says "Could not execute
command: autopano-sift". I purged both hugin and autopano-sift again
(including ~/.hugin ), reinstalled hugin (and implicitly autopano) and
tried it again. This time hugin said "Could not execute command:
autopano-complete"

Configuration-settings (not touched by me) can be seen in the screenshot
