Proper workaround found here:

Synopsis:  change the 'Exec' parameter
from: kchmviewer %U
to: kchmviewer %M

Instead of modifying the system-wide
'/usr/share/applications/kchmviewer.desktop', you can simply copy it to
your local ~/.local/share/applications directory.  Any entry in that
directory overrides the system default.
