Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xdg-utils

xdg-open fails to open HTTP URIs containing a trailing slash as long as
that slash follows the domain name.

martin at jones:~$ xdg-open http://www.google.com/
Error showing url: Failed to execute child process "/opt/firefox3/firefox" (No such file or directory)
<...no browser appears...>

martin at jones:~$ xdg-open http://www.google.com
<...success...>

martin at jones:~$ xdg-open http://www.google.com/reader/
<...success...>

I have only the default installation of Firefox and certain not an
installation at /opt/firefox3/firefox. Opening the URL through Firefox
directly succeeds.

Information:
Ubuntu 8.10
xdg-utils: Installed: 1.0.2-6
Firefox: 3.0.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1

** Affects: xdg-utils (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
