Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

the screen and progress bar showed during boot.

upon completion of boot (signified by audio playing) the screen was
entirely blank

ctrl alt f1 also did not show video.

upon booting with the recovery kernel, choosing to automatically clean up reported
that it was overwriting a cusom config (which I had not made, to my knowledge). this
system is scratch for testing from the alpha4 jaunty cd, plus upgrades using the default
sources in the apt configuration on the release.

xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.2.6.1-1

xserver-xorg-video-i740

are shown in apt

after the cleanup the system continued to bring x up, and show either
the f7 screen or the f1 screen

after rebooting using the regular kernel, the same problem exists
