Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: splashy
Was attempting to use different splash manager after following
instructions from Ubuntu Guide.
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Karmic#Compiz_Fusion
Change USplash Boot Screen
This is the splash screen you see at bootup, when you are asked for a
login and password. You can change the USplash screen using the utility
startupmanager. (Startup Manager can also be used to change GRUB bootup
settings if you use multiple OS's on your computer). Install:
sudo apt-get install startupmanager
Start:
System -> Administration -> Startup Manager
You could alternatively use a different splashscreen manager, Splashy,
instead of USplash. Install:
sudo apt-get install splashy splashy-themes
