The changes in Debian can safely be incorporated in Ubuntu: the maintainer has been changed which fixes bug # #525919
(Debian bug tracker) the Debian testing package also builds fine in a lucid chroot:
dpkg-deb: building package `autotrace' in `../autotrace_0.31.1-15_i386.deb'.
dpkg-deb: building package `libautotrace3' in `../libautotrace3_0.31.1-15_i386.deb'.
dpkg-deb: building package `libautotrace-dev' in `../libautotrace-dev_0.31.1-15_i386.deb'.
dpkg-genchanges >../autotrace_0.31.1-15_i386.changes
dpkg-genchanges: not including original source code in upload
dpkg-buildpackage: binary and diff upload (original source NOT included)
