[Bug 258183] Re: Please update Scid to new upstream version 3.6.24

I don't know what the cause of this is, but it is ridiculous that Ubuntu
uses a version of Scid, the best chess database program for Linux, from
2004 when there have been many recently released superb versions.

Couldn't someone who understands the big picture of how to get this
stuff done take some action? The developer has a very active mailing
list.

There is nothing whatsoever wrong with Scid, it runs fine in Ubuntu. The
only thing wrong is that Ubuntu is making an obsolete version of Scid
available and has been for years. Can't someone do something about this?
The reason that I and the others have not fixed it is that we don't know
what to do. This is the equivalent of haing George W. Bush listed as
President of the US -- there was an election some time ago!

In this case, the version of Scid made available by Ubuntu is obsolete
and there is a perfectly good version of Scid available at this instant
-- why doesn't Ubuntu update its offering?
