I had the same error, only on a 32 bits installation.
Ubuntu 9.10, Eclipse 3.5 and Subclipse 1.4.x.

Switching to Subclipse 1.6.x branch did the trick, everything started working again.
I think it is related with the libsvn-javahl version that gets installed (currently 1.6.5dfsg-1ubuntu1) with Ubuntu 9.10.
