Solved: pulse audio support for flash 10 in firefox 3.5.x (no sound and
crashes)

Tested with: flashplugin-installer/flashplugin-nonfree combo as well as
adobe-flashplayer.

Problem: no matter what you try, firefox plays for a short while with no
sound and freezes/crashes while attempting to play flash content.
Installing/re-installing/etc flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound DOES NOT
properly establish a path to a pulse device (I don't care what the
maintainer says). See user frustration and bitter angst - rinse,
repeat.

Solution:

apt-get purge flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound

follow instructions from this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4638714&postcount=13
As follows:
<code>
wget http://pulseaudio.vdbonline.net/flashplugin-nonfree-pulse_0.1~000.tar.gz
tar xvfz flashplugin-nonfree-pulse_0.1~000.tar.gz
cd flashplugin-nonfree-pulse-0.1~000
sudo apt-get install libpulse-dev
make
sudo make install
</code>

Note: this is the *ONLY* way I've found to get proper audio out of the
flash player under firefox - I tried a lot of things from dozens of
posts to cure it. I've followed some of the dancing and prattle between
the deb and ubuntu pkg maintainers and ended up pretty disgusted waiting
for them to 'coordinate' their assumptions. I don't run pulse as a
system daemon, I run it as a user process - was that factored in?

I suggest, in order to spare all of us the wear on our stomach lining,
that the package maintainers include this code if it is not already -OR-
put the conflicting flashplugin-nonfree-pulse pkg sited in the tree.
Further, if they have incorporated the code, but have elected an
alternate method - that they consider switching to what this code does
specifically. It is simple and it just works, at least in my case.
