Latest Debian Changelog:

 gnuchess  (5.07-6) unstable; urgency=low

   * Move readline dependency to libreadline-dev.
   * Update Standards-Version to 3.8.3.

The deltas in Ubuntu can be dropped because it can be confirmed that the
package builds fine in a lucid chroot from source fixing (LP: #438699)
