If you've scrolled this far down: I recommend scrolling back up to post
#21 by Laurent. His solution works. Ubuntu Karmic Koala seems to (within
its first weeks of use) have a slow connection to the Internet's DNS
server. And the time out is too short thereby messing up the
installation of these essential MS core fonts.
