I can reproduce this problem using notify-osd.
Using the notification-daemon, nothing happens (neither the "Now Playing" window nor the notification slide appear).
xfce4-notify seems to work fine in this case (moving the mouse cursor on Listen's tray icon pops an xfce4-notify bubble with the current song's information).
