$ lsb_release -rd
Description:    Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:        9.10

$ apt-cache policy ipython
ipython:
  Installed: 0.9.1-3ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.9.1-3ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.9.1-3ubuntu2 0
        500 http://il.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I encountered this after upgrading since my own app which is an enhanced
ipython shell which uses wx and pylab started getting stuck, and I was
looking for a simple test case. ipython -pylab isn't exactly a simple
test case, but it's what I have right now, and it is reproducible.

** Affects: ipython (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
