Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: live-installer

Today I was installing ubuntu and kubuntu 9.04 in FLISOL 2009. During
the process, reached a notebook with Windows XP, which did not make ntfs
partition resizing. In addition, the installer never told me why.

Then I used a Debian installer to rule out problems of distribution. So
the Debian installer told me to read /var/log/syslog, it was an "unknown
error", in the partitioning step. Finally, I found the error in the log.
ntfsresize did not allow resize the ntfs partition because it was in a
state of inconsistency and therefore suggested to run the command
"chkdsk /r" an reboot windows twice. Once knew this, do these steps and
finally I could install Kubuntu, because the owner of the laptop did not
want to lose the other operating system or your data.

I hope the installer warn me of any problem during the installation
process, but Ubuntu/Kubuntu installer doesn't show any error message,
simply ignored the possibility to resize the partition, instead of
alerting the user that had problems (the same error message from
ntfsresize output enough).

I spent several hours trying to figure out the problem, and that does
not let me install more ubuntus during the day, but finally I succeeded,
thanks to the error message from the Debian installer..

** Affects: live-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
