[Bug 331147] Re: [G33] low-graphics mode

Hi Bryce,

The problem resolved on its own. I thought it was the Ubuntu updates
that solved it. But now I feel it was a 'loose connection' at the
Samsung Monitor. The CPU is attached to the monitor via a 15 feet
extention cable.

I now on hindsight feel on (mis) handleing the cables the problem had
occured. As tightning the screws of the cable to the back of the monitor
solves the problem.

Once again, thanks for all the good work you guys are doing.

Best regards,
Lijo

Subject: [Bug 331147] Re: [G33] low-graphics mode

Looks like the -intel driver thinks th
 ere are no monitors connected.

(II) intel(0): Output VGA disconnected
(WW) intel(0): No outputs definitely connected, trying again...
(II) intel(0): Output VGA disconnected
(WW) intel(0): Unable to find initial modes
(EE) intel(0): No valid modes.

Tell me about your monitor. How is it connected? What is its make and
model? Please run the following command when it's attached and add the
output file:

  xrandr --verbose > xrandr.txt

  Hi,
  I'm a non-technical 'noob'.

I tried to run Ubuntu 8.10 from the live CD on my desktop but it would just
not go past the loadin
g black screen with text. However, the live CD of Ubuntu
8.04 ran very well on my Desktop. I then went on to install it with my previous
OS XP (Dual boot). Everything worked great except my Lexmark X 5470. I then
'upgraded' to Ubuntu 8.10. I was very happy to see 'everything work' so well. It
is when I rebooted that I got the message "Ubuntu has to start in low graphics
mode". I get the message:
  "(EE) intel(0): No valid modes.
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration"

The sad part is Ubuntu 8.10 worked great immediately after the 'upgrade'
however, it started this problem after its first reboot. Please help.

I tried (after a Google search) some help give
 n on your forum, lauchpad
as well as the web, but have not got this problem fixed yet.

  Code: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

and when complete use the command to reboot Code:

  sudo reboot

  I also tried Code:
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get -f install
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

  This too didn't help
