Public bug reported:

The Ardour package in the Ubuntu repositories is faulty in some manner.
Before I continue, a quick rundown of my hardware:

Motherboard: Asrock K7VT4A
Processor: AMD Sempron 2400+
Video: ATI Radeon 9600+
Memory: 2 GB
Audio Interface: Presonus Firepod
Ubuntu: Jaunty Jackelope Beta

The problem I'm running into is that many of the settings in the Plug-
ins are unchangeable. For instance, when attempting to use a parametric
EQ, instead of being able to freely adjust the settings as expected, I
was unable to change the the frequency setting at all. It just stayed
in place. I was, however, able to adjust the gain. Truly odd. Similar
behaviour was to be seen in many of the other plug-ins.

I say this is a problem with the Ubuntu package because I re-installed
Ardour from a .deb I downloaded from getdeb.net, and the problem
vanished. Paul, the main developer of Ardour, also mentioned (on the
Ardour website) that the Ubuntu packages were somewhat broken. It would
please me to no end if this could get fixed before Jaunty's release!

** Affects: ardour (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
