Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

X hangs after using xv output with a green or background color screen. It doesn't always happen on the first xv usage through a video player but after several times it always hangs. I have Compiz enabled but it seems to happen without too.
I haven tested it detail but this hangs seem to appear with UXA too.

I am using the XV overlay output because of tearing issues with textured
video.

I have saved the graphic registers according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/BlankScreen.

Of course connecting through ssh is still possible while X hangs. Even
the movie sound goes on. Killing X and restarting gdm results in the
same green screen.
