No, the issue was with the backend. The frontend was not running.

The disc activity sounded like a constant churning, initially I thought
it was a surface scan. It sounded like the process was either reading,
or writing constant data (there were no fluctuations like you would
expect when a process is recording data such as a tv show or similar).
The sound is similar to what you would expect if you were zeroing a
drive with dd.. (not a very scientific analysis of the situation, I
know..)
