True and verily. The problem still seems to source from VLC/VideoLan.
This is not first time for similar problem, it seems. Until it is
'fixed' by them, you will have trouble installing/updating anything,
unless you 'uninstall' VLC.

Having left windows because of these kinds of updates...

I may have to ditch VLC for similar reasons. It has been a good package,
except when it wants to play 'Freaky Freddy'...

I do understand, not all systems are having this problem, and
peculiarities of installations can not all be foreseen. For  such a good
product, and for the price, complaints must be tempered with
understanding. (RealAudio had similar problems recently - - within last
year, I think, and there are a few that I could never seem to get
installed.)

I still consider myself a quasi-newby... (only have 30+ years or so, off
and on computer geeking experience.)

Some things about Linux/Ubuntu, still defy my understanding.
(Documentation seems to be worst problem)...

Soooo... I will be using other tools for video and sound until VLC is
feeling better.
