Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-dev-tools

Hi,

Steve Langasek pointed out that check-symbols uses nm -D, which
strips of version information in symbols. This may cause some
issues to be missed when using it.

He suggested porting it to objdump -T or readelf -s to avoid this
issue.

He also suggested that icheck be preferred as it can catch more
types of ABI change. However the interface is different (it uses
headers), so it is not a straight swap. Perhaps somewhere (description,
manpage) icheck should be mentioned so that people are aware
of the options.

Thanks,

James
