Thank you for your bug report. It doesn't require the whole of gnome to
be uninstalled. The "gnome" package is just a metapackage that depends
on other packages that make up the Gnome desktop, and is not part of the
default install. This is a package that you installed yourself, and you
can remove it without harm.
>From the description of the gnome meta-package:
"This is the GNOME Desktop environment, an intuitive and attractive
desktop, with extra components.
This package depends on the standard distribution of the GNOME desktop
environment, plus a complete range of plugins and other applications
integrating with GNOME and Debian, providing the best possible
environment to date."
Therefore, I think it is correct that gnome depends on transmission, and
I don't consider this to be a bug.
