I'm experiencing this bug too. When OpenGL video output module is
selected vlc will crash

Reproducible with VLC Ubuntu packages

0.8.6.release.h-1ubuntu1
0.9.4-1ubuntu3

Reproducible with the following nvidia drivers

173.14.12
177.80
177.82
