Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: freemat
Hi,
After installing UbuntuI 8.10 (using wubi), I installed Freemat 3.6
+dfsg-3 using the Synaptic package manager. Everything went smoothly but
strangely enough some command work but others do not. For example,
constructing arrays by typing the entries by hand works fine but an
attempt to construct an array using the linspace command does not work.
Plotting 2D graphs also does not work. The trigonetric function cos
works but cosh does not work. Taking a square root using number.^(1/2)
works but using sqrt(number) does not.
I think that Freemat is pretty much organized the same way as Matlab.
For that reason I would expect that commands -at least some of them like
plot and linspace- are available using M-files. Downloading the rpm
file (Fedora Core 7) from the Freemat website, generating the deb file
and investigating the included files shows that this expectation is
correct.
When I try to install this deb file using the Synaptic package manager I
get the message that the same version is already installed. Updating
afterwards does not solve the problem.
It might be a simple matter of adding the right path to the freemat
installation but the problem is that I cannot find where the program is
installed. In any case, the directory structure seems completely
different from that suggested by the structure present in the deb file
mentioned above.
Help would be appreciated,
Paul van der Varst
