Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: padevchooser

Hi,

the current ubuntu audio device tools cause me lots of headache. Where
older ubuntu versions where working well with ALSA, I now have trouble
with adjusting the volume. Tools like alsamixer just display two mixers
for a "pulseaudio" soundcard. I did not find a way to get rid of it, and
I did not find a manual about how to use that properly. It just does not
work as expected.

I guess I need packages like padevchooser and pavucontrol, but for some
weird reason these packages depend on avahi-daemon, which I was happy to
throw out of my system, because it slows down and is a security problem.

Unfortunately, ubuntu is going a way into a bad direction, where
dependencies mess up a system and dictate a complexity cause trouble,
high system loads and security problems.

Is there any good reason why I should need useless things like avahi
just to adjust the volume of the speakers?

regards
