The issue that install/update freezes with
[: 208: -z: unexpected operator
until ctrl-c is pressed.

also remains in ubuntu 8.10


I "solved" this by installing boxbackup from upstream which works fine with the installation documentation from there 
and I added the linue

exit 0

as second line to /var/lib/dpkg/info/boxbackup-server.postinst
to skip all the ubuntu staff.

I think umaintained package witch are not installable should be removed
from the repository.
