Ubuntu 8.10 uses cfengine 2.2.7, which still suffers from a serious bug:

I've been using the Ubuntu (jaunty) and Debian (lenny) builds of 2.2.8-1
on both Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 to avoid this.

It would be nice to get that 2.2.8-1 release into the updates repository
for Ubuntu 8.04 ad 8.10, but there does not seem to be a Ubuntu
maintainer for cfengine.
