There is no config option of which I'm aware.  I don't think this is a
wise choice for a configurable parameter, anyway.  It should be
classified as 'error-checking'.

No, I've not reported it anywhere but here.  How are bugs reported in
Ubuntu 'escalated'? Or are you saying just go to the source maintainer
and report the issue there????  I'd rather not maintain the bug in more
than one place - and Ubuntu is where I found it.  But I understand if
you want to close this one & have someone else be responsible for it.
