I can confirm this bug on the Dell Vostro 1310 with the onbord Intel 965
chipset.

I'll give you the details as soon as I have physical access to the
notebook.

Hope this gets fixed soon my sister is going crazy about this as it
happens that in every 3rd reboot she gets to the loginscreen (KDM). The
xorg.conf is fresh from the x fix option in the ubuntu maintenaince
mode. whenever the screen stays blank there is no way to get to the
console via alt+ ctrl + Fn n element 1,...,6
