I am having a similar problem, using full screen video in any video
player (mplayer, dragon player, vlc, kaffeine, etc).  Also happens
whether I use kwin, compiz, xfwm4, or fluxbox as a wm.  It's pretty
consistent, and like the original report it kills all tty and when I
ctrl-alt-backspace it seems to send X into a loop of trying to start and
then crashing.

My error output looks mostly identical to what others have reported, but
i can submit it anyway if desired.
