I get the same error (in Hardy).

However, I also get that error when I run glxinfo or glxgears, and
glxinfo tells me I have no direct rendering even though glxgears is
rendering at a speed that wouldn't be possible without direct rendering,
the same speed it had before I upgraded to Hardy RC (from Gutsy). Should
I file that as a separate bug, or is it all caused by the same thing?

(Also, I only get this error on my nvidia-based desktop computer. My
intel-based laptop, also running Hardy RC, has no problems.)
