I'm at a loss as to what to do from here.  I can not debug the thing
because it seems that gdb can not handle multithreaded apps.  It looks
like one thread is segfaulting but the entire process terminates out
from under gdb before I can get some information about the state of the
process so I can figure out why it crashed.  It also seems to crash
randomly in different places each time.

I only see this problem on the breezy server I have at work.  I've never
had trouble with 7zip on my home PC running dapper.
