Just a note regarding gDesklets in Dapper:

After upgrading to Dapper and recompiling gDesklets 0.35.3, the FTB gauges seem to also work fine there.

BTW, after reading the number of posts on the ubuntu forums regarding this issue, I can't believe this bug is still unconfirmed...
