That was quick.  Thanks a lot.  I don't use a default Ubuntu setup ;)

I run a pure Enlightenment session, with no gnome-device-manager, hence usbmount is indeed useful for me (pmount will mount devices but not automatically or with special settings).  ivman seems to be another useful framework for the non-gnome crowd.
