IIRC, the tpb package is not working out of the box when you install it because
you need to create a user/group for nvram. This is not done automatically
(again, if I recall properly) because it has certain security risks.

FWIW, on my laptop the tpb package is not necessary to have the volume changes
or thinklight: this is all done properly through the kernel. Only OSD is
missing.
