Comment:
It is still possible to start the client with "sudo vpnc" and then enter the required information interactively. The client is then started in the background (or so it says). Together with the resolvconf package, the connection is made, a couple of nameservers added to /etc/resolv.conf, the "tun0" interface visible with "sudo ifconfig", and the correct default route
apparent in "sudo route". My problem is that the nameservers are not used, and the "tun0" interface shows zero traffic, making the client unusable.

The client is shut down with "sudo vpnc-disconnect", which reverts
everything to the situation as it was before.

My feeling is that the absence of the "vpnc-connect" script is just one
symptom of a broken package. (The package in Debian Sarge worked fine
before I switched to Ubuntu.)
