[Bug 1523] About screen is gibberish

This is weird. My locale is nl_NL.UTF-8. When I run audacity and select
the about box, I see a bunch of boxes (wrong charset?). When I run
LANG=en_EN.UTF-8 audacity I get this output in the terminal:

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library

but the about box is in normal Dutch instead of weird boxes now!
