Hi!
What's the first thing you want to do when you come to a new city? Get
out of it, of course! :-) See what nature has to offer. That's at least
what I want to do.
So how about having a walk/hike in the Swedish woods/forests on Sunday
28 October, the day before UDS starts?
Expect to see different types of Swedish woods/forest, e g Beech trees,
Spruce trees, Birch trees. Leaves falling from the trees should make
this a colorful and beautiful experience. Some meadows and fields as
well, and a scenic spot or two. As a bonus, being outside can be a good
way of telling your body what time zone it is in!
My idea is to walk 10 kilometers in a comfortable tempo. Halfway,
there'll be a restaurant/café where we can stop for lunch or minor
refreshments. I tried a pick a route with some variety in the scenery,
where we'll be walking on prepared trails for the most part. In the
beginning and end, we'll be walking through two villages (because that's
where there is public transport). There's not much of elevation to speak of.
Preliminary details follow. They can change if it means that more people
can make it, e g, we could walk on Saturday 27th instead.
* Ørestad 09:58 - Lund (train), Lund - Dalby (bus), arrive 11:23.
* Walk 5 km to Skryllegården
* Have lunch at Skryllegården
* Walk 5 km to S Sandby
* Departures from S Sandby are twice per hour. Bus to Lund, then train
back to Ørestad. E g 16:18 from S Sandby, arriving 17:40 in Ørestad.
Cost:
* Train + Bus, 135 SEK (~ 15€) single trip, so 30€ in total. Travel in
pairs for a minor discount.
* Lunches at Skryllegården start at 90 SEK (~ 10€). It's standard
Swedish food.
* Have a credit card with chip and you should be fine.
What to wear:
* Expected temperature is about 3C to 10C. Either sunny, cloudy or
light rain. In case of heavy rain, heavy wind etc, we'll cancel the
trip. Dress accordingly.
* A good pair of shoes or boots. It can be a little wet, but almost no
mud as we're mostly walking on prepared trails.
* Bringing a water bottle doesn't hurt.
Other info:
* No, there are no dangerous animals. You might see some birds, and
possibly a squirrel or two.
* Both Denmark and Sweden are part of EU and Schengen, whatever that
means for your country. (I've never encountered a passport control on
the train between Denmark and Sweden.)
* Not wheelchair accessible. Let me know if there are wishes for this.
If this sounds interesting, please write me an email!
