Hi Miles,

I second @Osinclaire's appreciation of the initiative. I also want to comment on the platform of choice irc has never been an African thing, at least not in Southern Africa to my knowledge. I am not speaking officially and do not have statistics but I know a good number of people who are active in the ICT community and even they do not do irc that much. I do not know if its possible, but if it is, can you please consider using another platform to engage with people, a Twitter hashtag would get a better response and most IRC things can be done on Twitter ( I think.)

I myself have never really been into IRC thing.

Garikai

On 14 July 2015 at 14:00, <ubuntu-zw-request@lists.ubuntu.com> wrote:

Send Ubuntu-zw mailing list submissions to
Good day,
Forgive me if I have sent you this mail before
I have been given the project of finding and reviving all the loco teams
in Africa. I am in Pretoria, South Africa.
With help from the ZA team we have registered the irc > freenode >
#ubuntu-africa channel and also a Canonical approved site
http://ubuntu-africa.info
This is me https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kilos I have made some progress
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AfricanTeams
and would be honored to have your LoCo join us. As you see on that link
we will be having our first meeting on the 29th. Can you please spread
the word and get other members in your team to link up with us before
then either on irc or feel free to email me directly. You can join the
members on https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-africa and join the mailing
list there as well
You can join your whole loco on launchpad as you will see Ivory coast
has Done
We have started using social media as well but have meetings and chat
and help and support on irc

Good morning Miles,

and thanks for your email. Seeing that the ubuntu community in Zimbabwe
has gone fairly quiet I think this is a great initiative. I think we
could do with some interaction from the larger communities in other
parts of Africa.

Note that I am not an official spokesperson for Zimbabwe LoCo in any
way, this is just a personal reflection. You can count me in though and
I will try and be on IRC on said day (am not very active on irc actually).

Kind regards
Sinclair
