Hi All, I have recently acquired a USB gprs modem which I managed to get working easily on my laptop using umtsmon (though not on Ubuntu). The process is quite straight forward: -plugin usb modem, it mounts as flash disk first (contains autorun for win drivers) -umount the flash device then it automatically mounts as the modem. -fire up umtsmon, create a profile, connect -profit! The speed varies a lot, but I'm always able to at least load gmail in html version, and do the usual google searches for code snippets and stuff. I've got 'good' speeds in the morning. So as far as getting work done, I think the solution works quite OK. I haven't tried to do any downloads as yet. In my opinion, it's not that wow, but good for basic use. I'm definately finding it useful. I'm afraid I wasn't impressed at all. It was possibly just the time of day (around 4pm) but it actually seemed slower than dialup and some of the larger/slower sites like wikipedia, failed to load at all. I fear that econet has already over-subscribed the service? Anyone else had any better experiences? Apparently it worked well when it was in demo phase but performance has degraded badly since it went commercial. (At least that's what I've heard).
