I also download and get updates without issues. I support installations that use various ISPs and I download and get updates without any problems. This issue might be specific and requires specific attention.

Hi there again
I'm on linux for about 8 years almost exclusively. But im far from being an expert.
What I can tell you for sure is that its possible to access ISOs and updates through other ISP in the country. Im actually learning for the first time that someone had a challenge of the type you have.
The experts can correct me again if im wrong, but it seems to me that the issue is really with the ISP you are using and not with the ubuntu servers.
I used Africom, Telone and Econet before without any issues.
May those who know better, please suggest a solution for our friend.
Whenever possible those with the ISOs could make copies and distribute and redistribute. As for updates, let us google for solutions.

Kalpesh, your thoughts on this?

Cheers

Antonio

I however wanted to know if it was possible to remove the firewall that requires people to connect through ZINX. I use several local connections such as Powertel that cannot download from the repository.

Hi All,

As some of you may have realised, Ubuntu 13.10 was released a few days ago.

Unfortunately due to some logistics issues, the local repo hasnt finished
downloading yet, however this should be done in a few days time.

The new hard drive has not been fitted yet, so i had to sacrifice the 12.10
repository (which does expire early next year anyway) to make space. A
whole new repository server rebuild is on the cards, and we should be able
to mirror alot more repositories soon. If you have been inconvenienced by
this, i do apologise...and i would recommend either upgrading to 13.04.. or
perhaps wait a few days and go with 13.10.

The LTS repositories are still available...so those of you running servers
should not be affected by the changes i've made.

I'll try and post up another update once the new repo and ISO's are online.

kalpesh.

Hi All,

It might just be a simple issue as not having the subnet that you are using
on the local mirror firewall. If you can visit http://www.whatismyip.com/ from
the connection that you are having an issue with,
then send me the IP address and i'll check whether it peers with ZINX or
not. if it does, then i'll just add it onto the firewall... if not, it wont
make sense to use the local repository as it will be slow for you guys to
download from, as international bandwidth is heavily restricted during
business hours on the server as Kerry mentioned.

cheers for now,

kalpesh
